Blackduck, Upper Red Lake and Surrounding Areas

Deer hunting season is in full force, with the first full week of the season almost over.

Opening Day started off with Doug coming in the office at 8:30 saying grab the camera...he had shot an 11 point buck first thing opening morning, that weighed out just shy of 210 pounds.  Shortly after that a seven pointer came in.  Have had some other bucks (a lot of spikes) and some does hanging in the shack, although not as many as last year.

Jim just got back in with a nice eight pointer that I just took a picture of, so I'll be adding the pics to the photo portion of the site here shortly.  The hunters yesterday and the ones I talked to this afternoon said that they are seeing more deer moving around now, so that's good news for the hunters just arriving for the second weekend of the season, and those hunting next week.

Temps haven't been too bad for the hunters, although we only had a trace of snow, so not too helpful for tracking.  But the temps are dropping and have already had someone asking about the condition of the lakes.   Still a little early, although you can see some light freezing over of some small creeks, we drove by Blackduck Lake yesterday, and there was only a few spots along some of the edges that had a skim coat of ice on it.  We'll see what Ma Nature throws our way!

Good luck to everyone heading out hunting season and keep safe!!!
